Are you gearing up for a family photo session and feeling a bit overwhelmed? You’re not alone! Many parents come to me anxious about the process, especially when young kids are involved. The good news is that you can transform your photo session from a stressful chore into a joyous experience.
My main goal is to capture authentic connections, real emotions, and genuine love. While we do incorporate some posed shots, the majority of our time together focuses on fun interactions as a family. That’s the heart of what you hired me to do—capture the beautiful moments that reflect your family’s true spirit!
Reframe Your Photo Session as Quality Family Time
Instead of viewing your family photo session as a task to get through, think of it as intentional quality time spent together. This shift in perspective can make all the difference!
Think About Your Family's Favorite Activities
Let’s take a moment to reflect. What are some activities your family enjoys together? Maybe it’s having picnics, going on bike rides, playing games, or visiting your favorite ice cream shop. Consider what brings your family joy and laughter.
For my family, one favorite destination is the Columbus YMCA and Field House. We love engaging in activities like jumping at the trampoline park, shooting hoops, and walking the track. It’s during these moments of shared joy—when our kids are laughing and having fun—that we truly cherish our time together, forgetting all else.
Make Your Photo Session a Fun Family Activity
I encourage you to reframe your photo session as one of those enjoyable family activities. Yes, there will be some organization involved, like getting everyone ready and dressed up, but ultimately, it should be an experience filled with laughter and joy!
As you prepare for your session, be intentional about how you communicate it to your kids. Instead of warning them to behave, share your excitement about the fun you’ll have together. Talk about playing in a beautiful field, picking flowers, or exploring nature. This positive framing sets the tone for a delightful experience!
Your Attitude Sets the Tone
Let’s be honest: your attitude as a parent can make or break the photo session. A stressed-out parent may inadvertently create an anxious atmosphere for the kids. While it’s important to guide and encourage everyone to engage, keep in mind that we’re here to have fun!
During the session, I will take charge of directing activities that facilitate genuine moments between you and your kids—watch out for silly jokes, tickle fights, and plenty of laughter! If you come prepared to enjoy yourselves, stress-free family photos are on the horizon.
A Fun Session Equals Great Photos
I want nothing more than for you to leave the session feeling thrilled and surprised by how much fun you had! It warms my heart to receive messages from clients saying their kids ask when they can have another photo session. Creating those joyful moments is what it’s all about!
Here’s a little secret: the more enjoyment you bring to the session, the better your photos will turn out. If you approach it with a mindset of fun, you’ll likely end up with amazing memories and stunning images to cherish.
