Frosting, Fun, and One: Raleigh’s Radiant Milestone Session

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to capture Raleigh’s one-year milestone and cake smash session in my cozy studio located in the vibrant Trackside District of downtown Columbus, NE. 

From the moment this adorable family of six walked through the door, I could feel the warmth and excitement radiating. This was their first session with me, and I was eager to get to know each of them, especially the birthday girl. Raleigh was all smiles, but let me tell you, she had no intention of sitting still! This little one had mastered walking and was nearly running around the studio, trying to keep up with her three older siblings. It was pure joy to watch their interactions and the love they showered on her.

The cozy lifestyle vibe of the studio perfectly suited their family. I often find that it’s those moments of authenticity—when kids are being their true selves—that result in the most beautiful photographs. Raleigh’s adorable smile lit up the room, and she absolutely loved the rocking chair prop we used for some of her photos. There’s something magical about seeing a one-year-old rock confidently back and forth; she was really rocking hard and embracing the moment.

Then came the highlight of the day: the cake smash! Initially, Raleigh seemed a bit hesitant, as if she wasn’t entirely sure how to tackle this delightful feast. But when Dad came over and demonstrated the art of smashing the cake, it was game on! The laughter that erupted around the family was utterly contagious. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, her older siblings decided to join in, playfully stealing pieces of cake at the end. It was a wild moment filled with love, laughter, and maybe just a little cake on the floor!
