Celebrating Calvin's One-Year Session and Cake Smash

I recently had the joy of capturing Calvin’s one-year session and cake smash, and it was an experience filled with wonder and laughter! As a photographer, I’m a huge fan of allowing kiddos to exist unhindered during sessions. I believe that not rushing children helps build trust, creating an environment where they feel free to explore and express themselves.

During our time together, Calvin led me to the things that sparked his interest, and it was incredible to see his wide-eyed wonder as he took in the world around him. These moments are what make photography so special; they capture genuine emotions and memories that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Turning one year old is a significant milestone, and cake smash sessions are such a fun way to celebrate it. There’s something delightful about watching a child dive into a beautifully decorated cake, and as you can imagine, it quickly turned into a delightful mess—one that I happily captured!

Our session took place at my studio in downtown Columbus, Nebraska on a cold, rainy January evening. Despite the gloomy weather outside, Calvin’s bright spirit lit up the space, making for some truly magical images.
